Since the proliferation of the artists book in the contemporary art scene began some twenty five years ago, the concept of "book" as art object has been an ever expanding one. The exhibition "Orihon and More: Books by Artists" presents an overview of some of the most inventive works being created by artists committed to the book in the continental U.S.

Among the thirty eight artists in the exhibition are performance - book artist, Susan J. Share, renowned book "inventor" and conservator Hedi Kyle, and nationally known curator and book artist Carol Barton. Some of the artists have works collected by such prestigious institutions as the Victoria and Albert Museum(U.K.) and the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Books range from sculptural; text free; one of a kind and multiple; hand painted and digitally printed; altered books, books made from found objects; wallbooks; expanding books that conform to the concept of "orihon" (folded page in Japanese, a book form that preceded our ubiquitous codex format associated with the word " book").

As presenters of the first major book show on Staten Island, we warmly welcome audiences to come and be inspired by the magic, metaphors, and messages of the book. The following artists are in the exhibition; asterisks indicate Staten Island residents:
